Currently in my 30th year of practicing family law, I have lots of experience in negotiating family law cases, attending at mediations and appearing in court.
I have achieved the designation of Certified Specialist in the Area of Family Law by the Law Society of Ontario. This designation recognizes lawyers who have met established standards of experience and knowledge requirements in the area of family law, and have maintained exemplary standards of professionalism.
I have received training in family mediation through Riverdale Mediation Training & Consulting as part of its Family Mediation Certification Program.
Complete the Contact Me section below and have your partner do the same. I will then follow up with both of you in order to discuss whether I am able to help to mediate your matter, as well as the anticipated costs and length of time needed. Once everyone agrees to mediation, an Agreement to Mediate will be signed and we will move forward with the process.
Mediation is a voluntary process by which the parties agree to negotiate the legal aspects of their separation with the assistance of a mediator, who acts as a neutral referee. The mediator may provide legal information to help facilitate an agreement. The mediator often helps the parties with communication that focuses on the legal issues, and which takes into account all of the various factors needed to move the parties toward a resolution of their matter.
If the parties are successful in negotiating the terms of an agreement at mediation, the mediator may draft a separation agreement which each party will take to a lawyer for legal advice. Alternatively, the mediator will provide the parties with a Memorandum of Understanding which can form the basis for a separation agreement to be drafted by the parties' lawyers.
